‘Pilot Project to Train the Educated yet Unemployed Youth from South Punjab for Employment with Electronic Media
In collaboration with USAID and Umeed Jawan, Media Advocacy Center has conducted a Media Training Program at Multan, Bahawalpur, Lodhran and Muzafargarh. The program was an effort to engage the educated yet unemployed youth from the underdeveloped South Punjab, in a positive activity to equip them with employable skills for the job market in the electronic media. In line with our vision to build a peaceful and prosperous Pakistan, we targeted locations in South Punjab where the jobless youth fall an easy prey to terrorist organizations and extremists outfits, by practically preparing them for a respectable career in the electronic media.
The Inaugural Session of Media Advocacy Center
The inaugural session of Media Advocacy Center was held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Royal Palm Club, Lahore with Mian Muhammad Mansha, Chairman MCB, in the chair. The session covered the subject of media’s responsibilities for free and fair elections. Prominent personalities from media, civil society and policy making institutions were among guests as well as speakers.
Training Workshop for Journalists on Election Reporting
In April 2013, simultaneously with the launching of Media Advocacy Centre, we organized a Training Workshop for Journalists on Election Reporting. Over 150 senior professionals from across the print and electronic media, civil society and multinational companies were invited along with reporters from different print and electronic media houses.
Seminar on Investment Climate, Way Forward & Role of Media
On October 4, 2013, we entered into collaboration with the Board of Investment for the second seminar. This was a dialogue, the first of its kind, between public and private sector on the “Investment Climate, Way Forward & Role of Media”. The business community and chamber highly appreciated this effort as after this seminar media became more suggestive in various columns, articles and programs highlighting the problems faced by investors and urging the government and policy makers to facilitate the investors to solve their issues paving way for a conducive environment for investment in the country.
Media Training Workshop for the Officers of Pakistan NavyIn December 2013, MAC conducted a Media Training Workshop for the Officers of Pakistan Navy at Naval War College, Lahore. The three-day (18th to 20th December 2013) workshop also included pre and post workshop sessions. The 85 officers were divided into groups and were taken to different media houses to know the working of media in the country. Academic sessions followed by interactive discussions between speakers, panelists and participants. Leading names from academia and practical journalism were keynote speakers and panelists.
Training Workshop for the Media Students of the University of Punjab
On March 5, 2014, MAC conducted a Training Workshop for the Media Students of the University of Punjab. It was attended by a large number of students from media department most of whom were in the final year of their 4-year degree program. The students were explained the difference between practice and theory before they embark upon their practical life to become professional journalist.
